Rent-a-wait a second!

Veronica says, “I suppose if the kids were with you at the time of rental, ‘surprise’ might pass.”

Yeah, yeah, quotation mark abuse, blah blah blah.  I’m way more hung up on: this is a THING?  CHICK rental?  And hey, if you bring it back alive, you get your money back!

You not only get your money back, but a dozen eggs as well!

Well, only if you return your chick-cage too.

I wonder if the quotes there are trying to suggest that you, savvy chick-renter which you are, might actually say ‘Surprise!” when presenting your younglings with their temporary pets. That seems almost feasible.

On the other hand, I can’t escape the notion that the final exclamation mark is no exclamation at all, but a period and an elongated single quote forced into unholy matrimony. But that’s probably just me.

    It’s not… I kept thinking that too.
